My best-selling ceramic piece of 2024: The Daisy Mug

For those of you that know me personally, you may have worked out that I’m organised to a degree, but it’s always to the necessary degree. I don’t tend to analyse how things are going simply because I’m so busy getting ready for the next workshop, event or exhibition.

That’s why, when I had a few minutes over the Christmas break to look at the 2024 sales, I was pleased that my favourite piece was actually the best seller! The piece I love to make and stare at and use in my own home connected with other people too. My hand-thrown Daisy Mugs now reside in homes across the country.

The Daisy Mug is curvy, round and dare I say, voluptuous. Each one is hand-thrown using smooth porcelain clay and to add to the tactile experience, the flowers are raised from the surface by a method called slip-trailing. This is where I piped the design using liquid porcelain clay. It has taken me years to practise this skill. Starting from a wobbly-handed beginner I fine tuned my work to make it very precise. However, now I favour a more fluid look and try to work in more flowing movements.

With its curves and raised surface design, the Daisy Mug sits nicely in your hands to warm them and if you close your eyes, you can mindfully trace the flowers with your fingertips - a few minutes of peaceful bliss.

As I am no longer teaching ceramics (my talented colleague Kelly Moore

https://www.kmooreceramics.com/ is now the potter you need to contact for classes), I hope to move from being bare-bones organised to comfortably organised. This means regular shop updates, more pics finding their way onto social media @hopscotchpottery and no emptying kilns and throwing pots into my mini to take to events that very same day!

Thank you to all of my customers in 2024. I have loved meeting you at events, working with you in the studio and sending you cardboard boxes full of ceramics.

I would like Daisy Mugs to be in more homes in 2025, so I’d better get making.

Fiona x
